Olivier devotes much of his practice to advising and assisting companies on all matters related to labour and employment. He has a strong expertise in subjects such as dismissals, company reorganization, collective bargaining, duties and rights of employee representatives, social elections, strikes, interim work, management agreements and “Gig economy”. He regularly represents companies before the Belgian labour tribunals and courts.
With respect to his areas of expertise Olivier is a frequent speaker at seminars and workshops and regularly publishes articles in legal magazines and books. He is, amongst others, co-author of the annual publication "Praktijkboek Ontslag" and the quadrennial publication "Case law Social Elections". He is a member of the editorial board of the law journal "Oriëntatie".
Olivier is recommended in the "Who’s Who Legal" 2017 edition as follows: "a leading expert on dismissals, reorganisations and collective bargaining, and is recognised as a market leader". Who’s Who Legal: Labour & Employment 2017 has Olivier listed amongst the 26 Belgian experts in Labour, Employment & Benefits Law. In 2018 he is mentioned as follows: "Olivier Wouters is a market authority on collective bargaining, company reorganisation and dismissals and is frequently instructed for his expertise in such matters. He wins plaudits as a “very helpful counsel who is always making himself available at short notice and has a very good knowledge of how our company works”." In the 2019 edition of Legal 500 EMEA, he is mentioned as a “Key name in the group”.
Olivier graduated with a Master of Laws from the K.U.Leuven in 1998, after securing his LL.B at the Facultés Notre-Dame de la Paix in Namur. In 1999, he obtained a special degree in social law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Olivier started his career as an attorney with Claeys & Engels in 1999 and became a partner in 2009. He has been the firm’s Managing Partner since 1 January 2015.
