With great sadness the partners and counsel of Claeys & Engels announce that their founding partner, driving force and friend Thierry Claeys has deceased.

From the start of his richly filled career as an attorney Thierry was passionate about employment law which he has marked through many years. Visionary as he was he developed in the 70’s the formula Claeys to calculate the duration of notice periods for white collar employees. His formula was known until far outside the borders of our country. Truly “artificial intelligence avant la lettre” as we could read in the press even last year.

He was the founding partner and Managing Partner of Claeys & Engels as well as the driving force for our international practice Ius Laboris. He left the bar in 2010 after a career of 41 years.

Thierry was a great lawyer and outstanding attorney but above all a very generous man. His device was to give people around him every chance to be able to grow. We will remember Thierry as a driven “patron” with a great sense of humour and self-reflection. We are and will remain eternally thankful for everything he meant for us and our firm. He shall forever remain an inspiration to us.

Our thoughts are with his spouse and his children.
