Termination of employment

In 2014, certain aspects of the Belgian dismissal law were thoroughly redesigned.

The government has recently adapted a few more provisions. Therefore, we would like to draw your attention to these latest updates to the dismissal law with this Dismissal 2.0 newsletter. As a result of these changes, we have also reworked our website www.dismissal.be and produced a short interactive video which describes the basic principles of dismissal.

In the so-called “Summer Agreement” of 26 July 2017, the federal government had announced a package of social and economic reforms. One of the many reform measures referred to the so-called “reintroduction of a trial period”. In fact, this does not concern the reintroduction of a real trial period but is a general adjustment of the statutory notice periods during the first months of employment. These new notice periods are applicable as of 1 May 2018.

We also discuss the so-called “activation contribution”.

The information in this newsletter reflects the state of affairs on 2 May 2018.

We hope you enjoy reading our newsletter and watching our video!
